The American Fishing Tackle Company (AFTCO) was established in 1958 in Newport Beach, California by J.C. Axelson. The company was later purchased by Milt and Peggie Shedd where a new company evolved with a concern for both the fishing customer and marine resources. The clothing division began in 1989 with the introduction of the what would become the world’s finest fishing shorts. In 2004 Guy Harvey partnered with AFTCO for the distribution and manufacture of its sportswear. In 2007, famous wildlife artist Al Agnew also partnered with AFTCO to create a line of clothing for both the fresh water angler and those who appreciate inland game and wildlife.
For more than 50 years, the AFTCO name has stood for quality and dependability, backed by a family-owned company that ranks among the world's most highly regarded saltwater fishing tackle manufacturers. The AFTCO Clothing focus is on performance but also on conservation ethics. The purchase of all AFTCO, Guy Harvey, and Al Agnew sportswear contribute to the over $350,000 AFTCO donates each year to various marine resource and fishing community efforts.
